Warm & Wooly Leather Hats @ [CIVVIES]

I finally finished a hat I've been wanting to make for awhile :D It's fashioned after really cool comic image of Tank Girl that I ran across... kind of vintage military... kind of Elmer Fudd... I dunno, I just really liked it. The really cool thing is that it kinda forced me into making hair! As much as I love to buy hair... I've been kinda scared to make it O.o it' just looks really hard and complicated.

Well, I finished the hat the other night, but couldn't get any of the hair I already own to work well with it (without making the hat enormous to accommodate the hat, or hairs sticking out here and there). Sooo, I made the plunge into making hair for the hat. As you can see, it's pretty simple, but it works!!! I can't imagine making a whole head of hair though... besides, what would i get to shop for if I made my own hair???

Hope y'all like it :D

New Releases @ Civvies!

Found some old vintage gauges and meters that I thought would make some nice belt buckles... an Amp Meter and a Soviet Anemometer (whatever the heck that is!) The leather's worn and dirty and the extra flap has a little flex. Simple, but functional :D

I also scavenged some old granny quilts and stitched together a sexy little number for the girls. The outfit is colorful and fun, with a nice homespun quality. I added my red scarf and ran around in mine all day yesterday... Wheee!

Multitasking in SL

I don't know if any of you have had this problem... well, most of you who read my blog are content creators with lots on your plates, so I'm sure you have... but I've been trying to multitask like crazy lately, and I feel like I'm spreading myself too thin at times.

Take last night for example... I was on Skype with Donovan... starting an IM to this guy who's making our wedding bands (he hasn't delivered them, and has been. until now ignoring mine and Donovan's IMs to him)... and doing Noam a favor by testing the scripting on the sweat wristband he just made. Well, the wedding band vendor, who we'll now call the "Sheister" has decided to come out of hiding and finally discuss the wedding bands with me... I'm testing Noams wristband at the same time, and trying to tell Donovan what the Sheister is telling me. One part of my brain is going "duuude! what a cool wristband Noam made!"... the other part of my brain is going "holy shit! I can't believe what this fucking Sheister ring guy is telling me!" I'm starting to cry because this idiot is making me sooooo angry I'm beginning to tear up, and thank goodness Donovan is on Skype trying to calm me down and make me feel better. Well, I finally finished IMing with the dick-head, and when I sent Noam the IM that the sweat band was working... he was... was... offline :-( I felt so bad... I would have MUCH RATHER been chatting with Noam than this idiot... and Noam asks me so few favors... I'm sure Noam will understand, but I still feel bad *sigh*

On the other hand... during the last Block Party... Donovan was DJing, and I was trying to chat with him a bit in IM (we can't Skype while he's DJing). Well... dang it! he wasn't answering me for long time, and I was getting all sensitive and upset at him, and... and... well, we'll just leave it at that. I KNEW that he was probably bombarded with IMs for requests, and taking the time it takes to get them ready and play them, and chatting with the crowd. I definitely should have been way more understanding with Donovan, knowing that he was juggling so many things.

I dunno... I was just thinking a lot about this, so I wanted to get it all out... right here... on my blog :-) I guess I really need to work on how to handle everything that's on my growing plate AND to be more understanding of other people's plates.

Okay, I'm feeling a little "verklempt" now *presses her hand against her chest*... "Multitasking"... discuss amongst yourselves...

New Store: [CIVVIES]!

In case you already didn't know... I opened a new store!!! I really wanted to try something different from the clean style of Miau Haus. (Don't get me wrong, I still LOVE my Miau Haus!) It's just so hard as a designer to be continually inspired and challenged... it's so easy to feel like you're in a rut, and my new project was just what the doctor ordered :D I've always loved movies like Blade Runner, Mad Max and Tank Girl, and I love how resourceful people would have to be in a post-apocalyptic setting... that's the spark that got my little kitty brain going. PLUS! I got to have the challenge of making everything dirty, worn out and grungy, sooo, with Donovan over my shoulder encouraging me to make things dirtier... dirtier... EVEN DIRTIER! I was on my way! Wheee!

Below is from my forum post, describing the store concept. After posting it, I realized how serious it sounds... almost like a book report for school (Gosh! I hope I get an "A"!)

"Wandering the skies of Second Life, [CIVVIES], a wearables establishment held aloft by the airship "Dystopia," supplies the citizens of a post-apocalypitic world with clothing and accessories. CIVVIES is currently docked in Redear and is open for business!

Items in the store appear to have been scavenged or reassembled from various found materials. Clothing has been previously worn... every rip, hole and stain tells a story. Colorful message-bearing graphics have been added to well-worn tees, where hard work is emphasized to promote the rebuilding of a new society, although beauty and the human capacity to enjoy life is equally emphasized. Although the store is called, Civvies, residual military influences appear, along with propaganda imagery and a distinct vintage flavor reminiscent of the eras of previous World Wars. Also notable are the multi-cultural influences that accurately reflect the melting pot society.

Civvies will remain in Redear as long as the business lasts... then it's off to another location where more customers and more adventures await!"

Anyhow, I hope everyone likes it as much as I liked building it and making shtuff for it. And a HUGE thanks to Miss Arbel for the blog! *hugggs!*

Calling all good music streams!

Okay... the music stream for Miau Haus that I really liked isn't working any more, and we don't have a good one for the house... unless Donovan is being my personal DJ for the evening :-)

Does anyone have any good music streams for SL? Maybe something dancy and fun for the store? Somethin' mellow, but not like retirement-home-mellow or elevator music? (And nothing head-bangin' that will make you want to "throw up the horns" and throw your head forward and back in a frenzy.) You've all probably been to Miau Haus... what would you suggest???

For the house... anything you all might have that you think Donovan and I would enjoy listening to.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!
